The name is a label, not a spec sheet

Variety names are largely marketing and lineage tradition — a way of identifying a specific genetic cross, the same way grape varieties get named in wine. They don't reliably tell you strength, flavour or effect on their own, and two batches of the same-named variety grown differently can vary. That's normal, not a red flag — it's exactly why the data alongside the name matters more than the name itself.

Cannabinoid percentage

This is the figure that actually tells you concentration — the CBD content as a percentage of the product's weight, confirmed by independent lab testing. It's the single most useful number on a listing if you're comparing options, and it should be published, not just implied by price tier.

Terpene profile

Terpenes are the aromatic compounds responsible for a variety's smell and flavour — earthy, citrus, fruity, herbal, and combinations of all of them. Where a lab report includes terpene data, it'll list the dominant terpenes by percentage. This is the closest thing to an objective description of what a variety will actually smell and taste like, more reliable than the name or the marketing copy around it.

Genetics and lineage

Some listings note the parent varieties a cross was bred from — useful context if you've tried a variety before and want something in a similar genetic family, similar to how knowing a grape variety helps you predict a wine's general character even before tasting it.

What to actually look at on a listing
