What Does CBD Solid Extract Taste Like? A Flavour Guide to the Range

A flavour guide to Calm Leaf's CBD solid extract, sold as pressed hemp tea: the main aroma families, what each variety smells like, and how to choose between them.

Sherblato CBD solid extract from Calm Leaf

CBD solid extract has no single flavour. Each variety has its own aroma and taste notes. Across the Calm Leaf range they fall into four families: fruit and berry, citrus, dessert and cream, and earthy and classic. This guide goes through each family, names the varieties in it and suggests how to choose.

The notes below come from the live product pages. They are tasting notes, not laboratory measurements. Our pages describe the format as CBD solid extract (pressed hemp tea). New to it? What is Hemp Hash covers the basics, and CBD Solid Extract Explained covers how it is made.

The four flavour families at a glance

Family Varieties Lead notes
Fruit and berry Lamponi, Z Berry Static, Rainbow Meltz, Mango Static, Fruitopia Raspberry, blueberry, watermelon, mango, cherry
Citrus Mimosa, Tropicana Cookies Orange, tangerine, champagne
Dessert and cream Sherblato, Cream Smoothie, Caramelo Sherbet, cream, vanilla, caramel
Earthy and classic Ketama Gold, Primera Warm earth, spice, natural hemp

Fruit and berry

Ripe, sweet fruit notes, rounder than citrus.

  • Lamponi is Italian for raspberries, and the notes say the same: fresh raspberry and sweet berry.
  • Z Berry Static leads with sweet blueberry and mixed berry, then a fruity finish. Its page describes Zkittlez-inspired genetics.
  • Rainbow Meltz layers watermelon and mango with strawberry, grape and a bright citrus finish.
  • Mango Static is ripe mango and tropical fruit with a clean finish.
  • Fruitopia mixes citrus zest and cherry with tropical candy and a sweet finish.

Citrus

Brighter and sharper, with orange and tangerine up front.

  • Mimosa is fresh orange with soft champagne sweetness and a clean floral finish.
  • Tropicana Cookies opens with tangerine and orange rind over a sweet, doughy finish. Its page lists a GSC x Tangie cross.

Dessert and cream

Smooth and sweet, built on cream, vanilla and sherbet.

  • Sherblato is sweet sherbet and cream with a slightly citrus finish.
  • Cream Smoothie is sweet cream and vanilla with a soft fruit-smoothie finish.
  • Caramelo is warm caramel and vanilla with a smooth earthy finish.

Earthy and classic

Warmer, earthier notes with less fruit.

  • Ketama Gold is warm earth and spice with a sweet woody finish. Its page describes a Moroccan Ketama-inspired pressing.
  • Primera is natural hemp with light floral and earthy notes.

Texture varies too

Aroma is only part of the picture. Where a page lists texture, read it before you choose. Ketama Gold is described as soft and more pliable than hard-pressed varieties. Tropicana Cookies is described as firm with good density. Rainbow Meltz is described as very fine and pliable.

Rainbow Meltz is also a static sift extract. Its page says the trichomes are separated by electrostatic sifting for a clean, fine-textured extract.

How to choose a first variety

  • Start with flavours you already like. Berries and tropical fruit point to the fruit family. Sharp, fresh notes point to citrus. Cream, vanilla and sherbet point to dessert. Less sweetness points to earthy.
  • Compare two families, not two varieties from the same one. The differences are easier to notice.
  • Try more than one. Single varieties are listed at £29.99. The Pick N Mix bundles list two for £49.99 and four for £89.99. That works out at about £25.00 and £22.50 each. The Pick N Mix collection and Pick N Mix, explained show how bundles work.

Batch information and UK guidance

Every Calm Leaf batch is tested. Some reports are linked from product pages, and the team can send the report for a particular product. Reading a COA shows how to check one, and our Product Testing & Transparency page explains how we review products.

CBD is covered by UK food rules, and guidance changes from time to time. The Food Standards Agency publishes its CBD guidance for businesses. Our guide to novel food status explains the term.

Frequently asked questions

What does CBD solid extract taste like?

It depends on the variety. Across our range, the notes fall into four families: fruit and berry, citrus, dessert and cream, and earthy and classic. Each product page lists the notes for that variety.

Which solid extract should I try first?

Start in the family whose flavours you already like. If you are unsure, a Pick N Mix bundle lets you try more than one variety in a single order.

Do all solid extracts taste the same?

No. Notes range from raspberry and mango to caramel, orange and warm earth. Texture also varies between varieties.

What does static sift mean?

The Rainbow Meltz page describes static sift as trichomes separated by electrostatic sifting for a clean, fine-textured extract.

Where do the aroma notes come from?

They are the tasting notes from each product page, not laboratory measurements. Many plants get their scent from terpenes, natural aromatic compounds that the plant produces.

Is every batch lab tested?

Every Calm Leaf batch is tested. Some reports are linked from product pages, and you can ask the team for the report for a particular product.
